Fula / Fulani language, origin and dialects spoken over the world.
Origin and History
Fula, or Fulani, is a member of the Niger-Congo language family's Senegambian branch. It is the Fulani (Fula/Fulani) first language, living primarily in West Africa, and occasionally in Central and North Africa. More generally, under Niger-Congo, it belongs to the regional Atlantic class.
Similarly, to the Fula people, many names are added to the language. In the western dialects, they call their language Pulaar or Pular, and in the central and eastern dialects, Fulfulde. Originally from Manding (esp. Mandinka, but also Malinke and Bamana) and Hausa, respectively, are Fula, Fulah and Fulani in English; Peul in French, also sometimes used in English literature, comes from Wolo. Ethnologists consider the main dialects known as Pular, Pulaar and Fulfulde to be distinct languages, but most linguists consider Fula to be a single language.
Fula is spoken in many parts of West Africa by around 13 million people. Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gambia, Chad, Sierra Leone, Benin, Guinea-Bissau, Sudan, Côte d'Ivoire, Central African Republic, Ghana, Togo, Liberia and Gabon have Fula speakers.
