Hindi language, origin and dialects spoken all over the world
Origin and History
Hindi derived its name from the word “Hind”, meaning 'land of the Indus River'. In the 11th century the Persian Turks who had invaded the Gangetic plains and Punjab named the language of the region Hindi, ‘Language of the land of the Indus River'. Hindi language evolves from Indo-Aryan group within the Indo-Iranian and Indo-European language family.
Hindi is one of the languages spoken in India and is one of the two official languages of India, with English being the latter. There are several regional languages in India, such as Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi and Assamese, but Hindi is used by the majority of Indians as their first language.
The Hindi language emerged from Sanskrit, an ancient Indo-European language. The escalating importance of Hinduism in colonial India and the alliance of Urdu with the Muslims encouraged the Hindus to develop a Sanskritic version of Hindustani, that lead the formation of Modern Standard Hindi after the creation of Urdu.
There are several other languages that are spoken in Indian states that have diversified into comparably distinct dialects around each state. Languages like Bihari, Punjabi, Marwadi, Sindhi, Marathi, Hariyanvi, Guajarati are interlinked that make Hindi a universal language among all the states of India.
Delhi , the capital of India and cities like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh speak Hindi as their key language. The largest number of Hindi speaking people are in India. 2019 Census records confirm that Hindi is the 3rd most spoken language of the world with 615 million speakers. Nearly 422 million Indians speak Hindi as the first or second language. Hindi is also spoken in Nepal, Mauritius, United States, Fiji, South Africa, Guyana, Suriname, Uganda, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Germany, Australia, Canada, Trinidad and Togabo and Singapore.
