Filipino / Pilipino language, origin and dialects spoken over the world.

Origin and History

The official language of the Philippines is Filipino, also known as Pilipino. The Tagalog language, an Austronesian regional language commonly spoken in the Philippines, is a standardised variety. The Commission on the Filipino Language describes Filipino as 'a local dialect spoken and written in the Manila Metro, the National Capital Area and other urban centres of the archipelago.

Tagalog is the first language of a population of 24 million, or around a quarter of the population of the Philippines, while 45 million speak Tagalog as their second language. The Ethnologue recognises Tagalog among the 185 languages of the Philippines.

Dialects

There are 8 main dialects in the Philippines. Bikol, Cebuano, Hiligaynon (Ilonggo), Ilocano, Kapampangan, Pangasinan, Tagalog, and Waray were listed from top to bottom in the figure. Tagalog and English are the languages being learned all over the Philippines. The official name of Tagalog, or even a synonym for it, can be considered Filipino.

The Filipino language of today is better categorised as Tagalog-based. In order to distinguish it from other Philippine languages, the language is generally called Tagalog within the Philippines and among Filipinos, but it has also come to be recognised as Filipino to differentiate it from other countries' languages; the former means a geographical root, the latter a national one.

Countries spoken

It's reported today that over 24 million people outside of the Philippines speak Filipino. Canada, Guam, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States are some of the several states where this language is spoken.
